The Story Behind Janell Bags
Founder Janell learned to sew as a young girl, growing up in the heart of Pennsylvania Amish country, where handmade quality, attention to detail, and creating things to last were simply part of everyday life. What began as a lifelong skill eventually became something more.
In 2010, while raising a young family, Janell began designing handbags at her kitchen table. Originally inspired by a simple goal, to support her passion for photography, the idea quickly evolved into something unexpected. With encouragement from her husband, Jerry, she created her first bag, and soon after began sharing her work with local shops.
The response was immediate.
After relocating to Maine, Janell and Jerry continued building the business together, growing from local boutiques and craft markets into a brand known for thoughtfully designed, handcrafted bags made with intention.
As the business evolved, so did the materials. What began with fabric designs expanded into leather craftsmanship, creating timeless pieces that balanced beauty, durability, and everyday function. The introduction of leather marked a turning point—one that helped define the quality and character Janell Bags is known for today.
Still family-owned and based in Newport, Maine, Janell Bags remains rooted in the belief that exceptional products are made with care, purpose, and attention to every detail. Each piece is thoughtfully designed to be both beautiful and enduring—made to accompany women through everyday moments and the seasons of life.
